The purpose of this presentation is to briefly explore Plato’s main ideas, and allegories, as well as their connection to Bahá’í teachings. This is neither a philosophical essay nor an in-depth study of Plato or Platonism. My main goal is to highlight how many of the ideas of the “divine Plato” lie at the foundation of Western cultural values and find validation in the Bahá’í Faith. It is my hope that Bahá’ís will develop curiosity about Plato and come to appreciate the value of reading his work.

Marco Oliveira is a Portuguese Bahá’í living in Lisbon, Portugal. He was born into a Catholic family and accepted the Faith in 1984. He is married, has two children, and works as a software engineer. He attended the “Religious Sciences” course at the Catholic University of Lisbon and is the author of the blog “Povo de Bahá” (People of Bahá). The deep study of Bahá’í themes and the study of scripture and theology have been his passions. In recent years he has devoted special attention to the study of Christian themes from a Bahá’í perspective.
